Schané ready to compete for the Miss SA crown

Schané Venter from Verwoerd Park has made it into the top 12 of the Miss SA beauty pageant.

VERWOERDPARK – The 12 Miss South Africa finalists who will be doing battle to be crowned Miss South Africa 2016, have been announced and Schané Venter (23) from Verwoerdpark is one of them.

Schané, a production assistant at a digital marketing agency, believes that she can inspire young women to live their dreams and believe that anything is possible if one works hard enough.

Inspired by members of her own family and Rolene Strauss, she is a cappuccino lover who also enjoys local markets. Shané believes that in today’s society it is easy to fall into the trap of needing to be flawless and that young women must realise that living a flawless life is not sustainable.

“You have to be the best version of yourself, instead,” says Schané.

“I am very honoured to be in the top 12 and I will make the most of every opportunity that comes my way.”

The top 12 come from around the country. Gauteng has five finalists; Mpumalanga and the Eastern and Western Cape all have two entrants while the Free State has one contestant.

PR manager of Sun International, Claudia Henkel says: “We are absolutely delighted with the finalists. The young women who have been selected depict everything that we hope the pageant represents – intelligence, integrity and beauty.”

The announcement was made at an event held to also bid farewell to reigning Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie and this year’s first princess, Refilwe Mthimunye, both of whom leave shortly to compete in the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants respectively.

Miss World takes place in China on December 19 and Miss Universe a day later in the US on December 20. The decision was made that Laurie, as the reigning Miss South Africa, will attend the Miss World pageant because Miss South Africa 2014, Rolene Strauss, is currently the reigning Miss World.

“The Miss South Africa pageant provides a prestigious, respected and well-meaning platform for dynamic and talented young women to discover their strengths, boost their confidence and propel their lives forward.

“It provides life changing experiences for the participants and for the winner an opportunity to inspire and make a real difference. As such it is perfectly aligned with Cell C’s strategy to empower women,” says Suzette van der Merwe, managing executive for Cell C.
