Spectator attempts to record court proceedings

Emotions ran high at the Deep in the Woods trial after a spectator was found recording the proceedings.

ALBERTON – The Deep in the Woods court hearing was postponed on Wednesday, November 11, until January 27, 2016, at the state’s request.

A well-known boxer, who allegedly shot four people at the Deep in the Woods Music Festival in October 2014, is charged with attempted murder. The trial has been postponed four times to date for reasons including disclosure, representation and the absence of the accused.

The state requested that the trial be postponed this time as multiple witnesses would have had to provide testimony and there would not be sufficient time to complete their testimony in one day. The prosecution would not be available at the next court date so the decision was taken to postpone the hearing until the new year. Three of the nine state witnesses were present on Wednesday.

Conflict in the gallery occurred when one spectator was found to be recording the court proceedings on a cellphone. A family member of one of the victims was asked to leave the courtroom when she became emotional after spotting the person recording.

Court officials ensured that the photographs and video taken by the spectator were deleted.
