‘We are declaring fresh war to poverty’ – Gungubele

The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele told guests that the city is adopting a ‘fresh war on poverty’ when he unveiled the 30 year Aerotropolis master plan.

EKURHULENI – On Tuesday Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele unveiled the highly anticipated approved Aerotropolis master plan to local and international investors during two days of the Aerotropolis Industrial Cluster and investment conference currently underway at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.

The Aerotropolis master plan will be implemented over a period of up to 30 years and is set to present potential and current investors with a myriad of economic opportunities situated around the OR Tambo International Airport.

Aerotropolis is the City of Ekurhuleni’s programme aimed at establishing an economic growth path that will reposition the regional economy of the entire Gauteng City Region as well as to balance the distribution of economic activities around the Ekurhuleni region with an intention to create over half a million new formal jobs over time.

During his keynote address at the Aerotropolis investment conference Gungubele said, “Today I can say without fear of contradiction that we are unveiling to the world one of the most solid city development and investment attraction instruments.

“Through this Master Plan, we are making a bold commitment as a show of force and demonstration of our resolve to change the lives of our communities.

“We are declaring fresh war to poverty, joblessness, unemployment and the inequalities of the past”.

Each project identified to breathe life into the Aerotropolis has a significant role to play in driving the reindustrialization programme of the region while activating new industrial opportunities sunrise industries, biotechnology and advanced manufacturing.

Ekurhuleni is home to Africa’s first Aerotropolis following successful implementation in airport cities of continents such as the Middle East, Asia, North America and Europe.
