Several security companies joined the police force in patrolling the streets of Alberton for 24 hours from 12:00 on Saturday, November 14, to 12:00 on Sunday, November 15.

ALBERTON- THE Greater Alberton Community Policing Forum (CPF) and several other security companies joined the police force in patrolling the streets of Alberton for 24 hours from 12:00 on Saturday, November 14, to 12:00 on Sunday, November 15.

CPF spokesperson, Pieter Schreider, explained that all three sectors in Alberton were patrolled and roadblocks set up. Some volunteers drove for 12 hours while others opted for shorter or longer shifts. Sector one which includes Leondale, sector two which includes Verwoerdpark, Elandspark and Florentia and sector three which covers New Redruth and Randhart among others, were all patrolled.

The aim was to raise money for the purchase of a repeater for their two-way-radio infrastructure, to allow more members access to the network, to report crime and to ask for assistance.

“On the day people sent messages, phoned the CPF control room and called over the two-way-radios, so that CPF could collect their donations,” Schreider said.

The drive also set out to create an awareness of the police, the security companies,  CPF and to make Alberton a safer place. CPS Security, FOX Security, SWS Security, the National Paramedical Services and CPF were all part of the initiative.

The CPF control room can be reached, 24 hours a day, on 076 105 0859.
