WARNING: Possibility of ‘tennis ball sized’ hailstones to hit Joburg

Heavy rain and damaging winds expected to hit Johannesburg in the afternoon.

JOHANNESBURG – After large hailstones, as big as tennis balls fell in the Hoedspruit and Burgersfort areas of Limpopo on Sunday November 15, the South African Weather Service has issued a warning for thunderstorms.

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms with hail and strong damaging winds.

“Watch out for large hail and damaging winds. Severe storm warning in effect across Gauteng from noon to 11pm on Monday‚” the Gauteng weather office was quoted by Time LIVE.

Residents are urged to take precautions when travelling and be sure their vehicles and animals have appropriate shelter.

At the moment forecaster are predicting a 60 per cent chance of thunderstorms for Tuesday and Wednesday.

For the rest of the day on Monday November 16, a 100 per cent chance of rain is expected from 16:00.
