PHOTO’s: Six-year-old dies in accident

Two separate accidents on the N3-freeway close to Grey Avenue has occured over the weekend.

ALBEMARLE – A six-year-old boy died in an accident on the N3, close to Grey Avenue in Albemarle, yesterday evening, October 25, at about 19:45.

This accident happened in close proximity to another accident which took place only eight hours earlier.

Kevin Peel, spokesperson for National Paramedical Services (NPS), said the first accident on the N3-northbound, close to Grey Avenue, happened in the morning at about 11:30.

“A bakkie drove into a stationary truck causing the truck to flip onto its side and hit a further two cars.”

He said NPS transported a patient to the Netcare Union Hospital while another ambulance service transported patients also to this hospital and to the Natalspruit Hospital.

All patients sustained minor injuries.

On the evening of October 25, two vehicles collided on the N3-southbound, close to Grey Avenue.

On arrival, NPS found that a six-year-old child had been injured in the accident and was in cardiac arrest.

“CPR was started but unfortunately, despite all efforts made by paramedics on scene, the child succumbed to his injuries,” said Peel.

A patient was transported to the Netcare Union Hospital with minor injuries.

“Our sincere condolences go out to the family of the child who passed away,” said Peel.
