SAPS clamp down on illegal shebeens

The Alberton Police Station says any establishment found breaking the law will be prosecuted.

Two police officers from the Alberton Police Station confiscated liquor worth thousands of rand from shebeens operating illegally in the area.

Captain Solomon Matlou and Sergeant Philemon Mashamaite destroyed the confiscated liquor.

Sergeant Phora Nkuna, Alberton police spokesperson, said the public are warned that it is an offence to sell liquor without a license and anyone found guilty of breaking this law will be prosecuted.

“It is also an offence to sell liquor to people who are under 18 years of age, even when a business has a license to sell liquor,” Nkuna said.
