ALBERTON – A leaking fire hydrant on the corner of Padstow Street and Camborne Road in New Redruth has created concern among residents because of water wastage.
The matter was reported to Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality by a resident in August.
Spokesperson for the EMM, Themba Gadebe stated: “The leaking fire hydrant was not attended to immediately as a big area, including the Central Business District of Alberton and two major hospitals, would have to be closed to replace the worn out hydrant head. The leak is not major and does not warrant the disruption of the whole supply zone. It will therefore be attended to when there is another disruption where a shutdown is needed”.
