Fatal shooting claims man’s life

A 22-year old man was killed execution style in Alpha Street, Edenpark.

EDEN PARK – A 22-year-old man was shot execution-style outside a tavern in Alpha Street on Heritage Day, September 24.

The police reportedly responded to a 23:15 call about a shooting outside a local tavern in Eden Park. Upon arrival they found the 22-year-old man covered with a blanket and with a bullet wound to his forehead.

“I was busy serving patrons inside the house when I heard a gunshot. I ran out and found a young man lying at my gate with blood streaming from his forehead.

“Some bystanders said a car stopped, one guy got out and shot at the deceased,” explained the tavern employee who asked not to be named.

Eyewitnesses reportedly gave police different accounts of the events that transpired but they all agreed that a suspect from Riemvasmaak is believed to be responsible for the killing. The suspect’s name is known to police.

A bystander alleged that it was a revenge killing by a hired assassin. The bystander’s allegations suggested that four weeks prior to the shooting, the deceased was involved in a fight with and stabbed another young man from Alder Street.

Lieutenant Motloung confirmed on Thursday, October 1, that no suspect has been arrested for the shooting but expected the first statements from eyewitnesses by Friday, October 2.
