ALBERTON – Road users experienced a six-hour road closure on Tuesday, September 22, as the deck of the Swartkoppies pedestrian bridge was repaired.
The pedestrian bridge has been closed since a truck struck the bridge in March 2011 dislodging a section of the walkway.
The protracted repair proceedings have finally resulted in the deck being replaced.
“The pedestrian bridge will not be opened immediately as the hand railing will only be installed once the deck has been fully installed,” said Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM).
