“There was this void in me and I needed something fulfilling to keep me busy. So in December 2013 I opened my home as a place of safety for babies who were abandoned or placed up for adoption by their parents.”

Lynn’s home has become a place of safety for newborn babies up to two years of age, where after they are placed in the toddler house. This project forms part of SA Cares for Life, a child protection organization.

“I wanted to give back my time to the community and because children are my passion, this is something that I have always wanted to do.”

While speaking to the RECORD, three babies lay snuggled up in their cots in the room that once used to be her bedroom.

“I changed my lifestyle to fit in with them. I love being their number one and you hope that you will help in fulfilling their lives with the small things you do. I used to have five babies but two have been adopted. I have space for altogether six babies,” she said.

Lynn Tyack speaking about her love for babies:

“This is a 24-hour job and although it is a battle on my own, I won’t trade it for anything else in the world. I am privileged to have volunteers like Laura Brown and Michele Stols who assist with the bathing and feeding of these little angels.”

Lynn said the good-hearted community can also not be overlooked.

“Everything that I have here has been donated and without the help from the community I would not have been able to make a difference in the lives of these children.”

Lynn is in the process of extending the existing building to create a small area which will be converted into a permanent baby bathroom and kitchenette – a project that will cost about R54 000.

As a way of generating funds to cover her finances, Lynn makes hand crafted foot and hand clay prints of children that are framed together with a picture.
