āPeople have asked about the dislike button for many years. Weāve finally heard you and weāre working on this and we will deliver something that meets the needs of the larger community,ā Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was reported to have said on Tuesday September 15.
According to Zuckerberg the dislike button wonāt however be a way to downvote posts, Herald Live reported.
According to Herald Live,Ā Zuckerberg explained, āWe didnāt want to just build a dislike button because we donāt want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on peopleās posts.
“That doesnāt seem like the kind of community we want to create. People arenāt looking for the ability to downvote peopleās posts, what they really want is to be able to express empathy.
āA lot of times people share things on Facebook that are sad moments in their lives. Often people tell us that they donāt feel comfortable pressing ālikeā because ālikeā isnāt the appropriate sentiment.”
