You will soon be able to ‘dislike’ Facebook posts

Facebook users will soon be able to use the long-demanded dislike button after the social network revealed it is working on such a feature.

ā€œPeople have asked about the dislike button for many years. Weā€™ve finally heard you and weā€™re working on this and we will deliver something that meets the needs of the larger community,ā€ Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was reported to have said on Tuesday September 15.

According to Zuckerberg the dislike button wonā€™t however be a way to downvote posts, Herald Live reported.

According to Herald Live,Ā Zuckerberg explained, ā€œWe didnā€™t want to just build a dislike button because we donā€™t want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on peopleā€™s posts.

“That doesnā€™t seem like the kind of community we want to create. People arenā€™t looking for the ability to downvote peopleā€™s posts, what they really want is to be able to express empathy.

ā€œA lot of times people share things on Facebook that are sad moments in their lives. Often people tell us that they donā€™t feel comfortable pressing ā€˜likeā€™ because ā€˜likeā€™ isnā€™t the appropriate sentiment.”
