ALBERTON- Over 80 000 Bidvest employees and their families, including many Alberton residents, took to the streets in the sixth edition of the Bidvest Unity Walk.

Taking place on the same day at the same time under the same company banner, the South African cities of Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth were set alive with laughter and good spirits as Bidvest employees and their families participated in a walk to raise awareness of the QuadPara Association of South Africa (QASA).

“We partnered with QASA with the aim of raising awareness of the charity. We also committed to donate one wheelchair for every 75 employees that completed the walk and one wheelchair for every seven media people who walked. We walked for extraordinary people and it gives me great pleasure to say that we donated in excess of 300 wheelchairs,” said chief executive of the Bidvest Group, Brian Joffe.

“Sahara Stadium was rocking to the sounds of Gangs of Ballet as the exhausted staff and families of Bidvest danced knowing that they had made a difference to those in need of wheelchairs. QASA will honour Bidvest’s dream of mobilizing people with disabilities,” explained QASA CEO, Ari Seirlis.

Upon completion of the walk, all those involved enjoyed the entertainment provided by the likes of Cassper Nyovest at Bidvest Wanderers in Johannesburg, Gangs of Ballet at Sahara Stadium in Durban, Vincent Bones at the Cape Town Stadium, and Danny K at the NMMU Indoor Sports Centre in Port Elizabeth.
