Potjiekos cook-off for charity in the south
Every team should have a theme and the theme and team with the best spirit will also be judged.
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Vita Nova Centre is hosting a Potjie competition on August 29 in La Rochelle honour of Operation Hope Grows with the aim of raise funds for the Centre.
The competition which will take place from 09:00 till 21:00 will be judged by three local celebrity chefs.
Here are the Potjiekos Competition Rules:
- Maximum of ten members per team and minimum of two members
- Entry fee per team is R500.00.
- Teams are responsible for own pot, ingredients, cooking utensils, gazebo, chairs, fire extinguisher, wood and coles, braai drums.
- Everything has to be made fresh on the day. Nothing pre-cooked and pre made is allowed.
- Every team should have a theme and the theme and team with the best spirit will also be judged.
- Water will be available at the venue. Please note there is no electricity.
- Teams will be judged on theme, appearance, cleanliness of the area, taste, originality, and plating skills and most money raised on the day.
- Teams to arrive at 07:00 to set up. Cook off starts at 09:00 sharp.
- Final potjie tasting will be at 14:00 judged by three local celebrity chefs.
- From 14:00 – 17:00 teams will have opportunity to sell their food to the public and try raise the most funds.
- Teams to bring own containers, serviettes and cutlery to sell their food.
Prizes will be given for:
- Best theme of the day
- Best team spirit on the day
- Best tasting potjie
- Team that raised the most funds on the day
