A Woman's Day event was held at Hoërskool Marais Viljoen to raise money for the Epic Foundation.

ALBERTON — Addictive Hair, Nails, Beauty Alberton held their first Women’s Day event, Hair to Make a Difference, on August 10 at Hoërskool Marais Viljoen.

Hair to Make a Difference was not only a fun day for the young and old to busk in the sun but also raised funds for the Epic Foundation.

The Epic Foundation, started in 2013 by Alta McMaster, assists women who have experienced trauma including abuse and rape.

“Although the turnout of people wasn’t completely what we had hoped it would be, we are still happy about the fact that we managed to raise money for the foundation,” said events manager, Peter McGonigle.

FOR CHARITY: Peter McGonigle sprays Danielle Colyn (13) from Laerskool Randhart’s hair green.

Hair spraying, a motor expo, jumping castles, a touch rugby tournament and live entertainment by local musician Pieter Albert Jordaan kept both the young and the old entertained.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters and some of the East Rand’s top boxers gave self-defence demonstrations and signed autographs for the little ones. Several food and craft stalls ensured that no one left hungry or without something to remember they day by.

Peter said Hair to Make Difference was community driven as several businesses also took the opportunity to showcase their products and services.

“This was our first event of this nature and we are planning to hold this event annually and we hope that it will keep on getting bigger and better.”
