NFP Gauteng calls for former National Police Commissioner

Deputy Minister Cele proved that his hard tactics was what we needed as a country to control crime and criminal elements - NFP

JOHANNESBURG — The National Freedom Party (NFP) in the Gauteng Province, pleaded with President Jacob Zuma to reappoint former national police commissioner and the current Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Bheki Cele as the provincial police commissioner.

NFP base their call on the number of police officers that have been killed in the province since last week. The brutality that has been vented against law enforcement agencies in Gauteng is alarming.

“It has actually reached a state of catastrophe. It’s a disaster that one province can no longer accept. As such, we feel it is high time that criminals and criminality are met in the same fashion and we are convinced that former national police commissioner, Deputy Minister Bheki Cele is the solution. During his tenure as the police boss, crime decreased, no matter what the statisticians argued, but as the people at grassroots level, we felt much safer compared to the current period,” said Sabelo Dlamini, Gauteng provincial secretary of the NFP.

NFP believe that Bheki Cele proved that his hard tactics was what we needed as a country to control crime and criminal elements because he instilled discipline in the police force and the results were there. “It is for this reason that we urge President Zuma to reappoint Cele as the Gauteng provincial commissioner because Gauteng is the country’s economic hub and as such, it has the potential to influence investment and automatically boost the country’s economy which can contribute to job creation,” said Dlamini.

The NFP also believes that the rampant killing of police officers is not only causing instability in our economy, but it has the potential to drive away potential investors.

“While we highly appreciate the contribution of Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba and believe that he is a good leader, our current view is that he can be best suited in another province where criminals have more respect of the law when compared to Gauteng. Its only the person in the calibre of Cele who can restore order in Gauteng.”
