Murdered cop to get full military funeral

A police officer who was killed last Tuesday, June 28 will be honoured with a military funeral.

VOSLOORUS – Murdered Vosloous SAPS constable, Eric Buthelezi, who was gunned down by a gang of heavily armed men at the Vosloorus Crossing shopping complex on Tuesday morning, June 28, during a robbery at the Cash Crusaders store, will be buried with full military honours at his family home-town in Ulundi in KZN.

According to the Vosloorus SAPS spokesperson, Capt. Piet Rossouw, 34-year-old Const Buthelize, was originally from Ulundi, but he and his wife and their two young children lived in Newcastle. Buthelezi was currently staying at the Vosloorus police barracks.

Buthelezi died from two bullet wounds sustained during the robbery after he and a police colleague, Siyabonga Moloi, were ambushed by a gang of robbers while on an early morning routine surveillance patrol at the shopping complex. Constable Moloi, however, escaped unhurt.

At the time of going to press, Capt. Rossouw could not confirm the funeral arrangements for the slain policeman.

However, he confirmed to Kathorus MAIL that a police chaplain had driven down to the dead policeman’s family home in Ulundi to finalise the burial details with the family.

“We are planning a full military funeral service for him, but I will only be able to give you all the details once negotiations with the family have been finalised,” said Capt. Rossouw.
