Eden Park Primary School needs a principal

Eden Park Primary's learners, teachers and parents have been waiting since August 2014 for the appointment of a principal at the school.

EDEN PARK – The former principal, Mr IR de Vries, left on August 26, to take on a new position in Jeffreys Bay and, to date, no appointments have been made.

On June 8 parents marched to the school demanding an appointment of a principal and handed over a memorandum to the Gauteng Department of Education.

On June 22, a response was sent by the Gauteng Province, offices of the district director, in which it was stated that: “The process of appointing a principal was on track. I was delayed by grievances after two attempts to finalise the process and the process will be concluded by an independent panel.”

The response further stated that the singling out of men in the memorandum was discriminatory in its nature as a candidate should be appointed on the basis of his/her ability in terms of the process of recruitment and selection.

Concerning items in the memorandum that related to who should be appointed in the principal’s post was found to be in conflict with the Labour Relations Act, Collective Agreement 2 of 2005 and the guidelines on recruitment as per the Gazette in which the post was advertised.

Interviews for the post were held on July 7, by the Gauteng Province, and the appointment needs to be finalised.
