Alberton Traffic Department not to blame for delays

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, the delays at the Alberton Traffic Department is not the department's fault.

With reference to the letter published on July 15 (No driver’s licence card since May) the RECORD received the following comment from EMM senior media manager and spokesperson, Themba Gadebe:

On the day in question, the staff member explained the renewal procedure for driver’s licence cards to the client.

After applications are completed at the local authority, the applications are forwarded to Prodiba, the government’s appointed service provider, who processes and finalises the transactions for the issuing of the renewed driver’s licence cards. The local authority then awaits the delivery of the renewed licence cards from Prodiba. This entire process normally takes six to eight weeks.

The applications for driver’s licence renewals from the month of May have not been received as yet.

As explained any delay in this regard is not the fault of the local authority since the issue does not reside with the local authority. We do, however, constantly conduct the necessary follow-ups so as not to inconvenience clients.
