According to Capt Moremi from the Eden Park SAPS, the incident happened when several suspects driving an Opel Monza sedan attempted to hijack a bakkie driven by a man in Extension 7.
“There was resistance from the driver of the bakkie and one of the suspects then shot him in the leg. A taxi driver who witnessed the incident rushed to the scene and began a search for the Monza.
“The vehicle was later spotted and when the suspects were confronted, they abandoned the Monza and fled on foot.
“The bakkie was driven to the Eden Park police station where it was collected by the victim’s relatives while he was rushed to hospital,” said Capt Moremi.
