Baby Lilani needs your help

Lilani Nel is fighting to stay alive and her parents need help to keep her healthy.

ALBERTON – Premature baby, Lilani Nel needs your help in her fight for life. Lilani requires life saving injections that her parents can no longer afford to pay for on their own.

On December 1, 2014, Lilani was born at 32 weeks and with a weight of only 1060g, she had to spent seven days on CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) ventilation and five more days on oxygen therapy. She experienced respiratory distress, cyanotic attacks and apnoea, the temporary cessation of breathing.

Little Lilani is a brave fighter but at eight months old, she is at risk of developing Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). RSV causes infections in the respiratory tract and can present a serious danger to premature and high risk babies. Palivizumab is the drug that is used as a preventative measure against the development of serious RSV disease but it cannot help cure or treat children already suffering from it.

Lilani’s parents, William and Wanita’s medical aid does not cover the use of Palivizumab which costs R18 292.71 per injection. After six injections, Lilani’s parents are unable to carry the costs alone as Wanita has had to give up her work as a nursery school teacher to care for her daughter.

Lilani’s grandmother, Ricky Jonker, has begun an account to assist with Lilani’s medical treatment. Anyone who is prepared to make a donation, no matter how small, can make their contributions to Lilani’s Trust, Capitec Bank, savings account number 1410232717 or contact Ricky on 082 7522 702 for more information.
