Hijacking in Laverda Street

A 52-year-old man was the victim of a hijacking in Laverda Street, Little Germiston, at 22:00 on July 3.

EDEN PARK – According to police reports, the man was confronted by three armed men who demanded the keys and took off at a high speed.

The victim, who asked not to be named, said he was taken by surprise. “It happened so quickly and I still don’t know where the three men came from. One of them wanted to shoot me but the gun jammed, making a clicking sound only,” he said.

“I arrived home and could not open the gate with the remote control. I then got out of the car to open it manually and, just as I opened the door, a man suddenly appeared and pointed a gun at my head and demanded the keys.

“I wanted to grab him but a second gun was pointed at my head while the third man got into the car. The driver could not release the handbrake but eventually got it right and the other two jumped in and they sped off,” the victim told the RECORD.

He said he was happy his family never came out when they saw the hijacking through the window. The victim lost his laptop, ID book, passport and bank cards. “I thank the Lord that nothing happened to me or my family.”

A case has been opened at Eden Park SAPS and they are investigating.
