One dead in Jackson street shooting

One woman has been confirmed dead after what is thought to have been an attempted hijacking in Brackenhurst.

ALBERTON – One woman has been confirmed dead in what was thought to have been an attempted hijacking in Jackson Street, Brackenhurst on the afternoon of Thursday, July 9.
Neighbours mostly stayed indoors when they heard shots in the quiet street but one eyewitness saw a car pull up beside the white Mitsubishi Outlander and fire shots into the driver’s side of the car.
Protective Force and Fox Security were reportedly first on the scene. Emergency services were on site shortly after the deceased was found with a bullet wound to the head. The suspects reportedly took nothing from the car and left the Outlander behind as they fled the scene.
The victim was reportedly on her way back from a trip to the bank and was pulling into her driveway when the suspects shot her.
SAPS has not confirmed the number of suspects involved in the shooting or a description of the vehicle involved. The suspects are still at large.
