Stolen tablet sold for R80

She left the outside room where she lives for only a couple of minutes, but it was enough time for a thief to enter and steal her tablet and other possessions.

ALBERTON – She left the outside room where she lives for only a couple of minutes, but it was enough time for a thief to enter and steal her tablet and other possessions.

Lizel Liebenberg (24) stays in an outside room at her parents’ house in Abraham Street. On Monday, June 22, at 06:45 she left her two children in her room to use the bathroom in her parents’ house.

“When I came out of my room to enter the house’s front door, there was nobody in the yard or at the gate. I went into the bathroom for a couple of minutes, and when I returned, I discovered the items were stolen from my room. The main thing was my tablet, which I left on the table,” said Lizel.

An hour or two passed and she was still confused by the event. She says she then confronted one notorious young man in the same street, suspecting that he could have been the thief.

“Luckily he saw the thief entering our gate. I immediately confronted the man staying in Corona Street, just a street down from Abraham Street and told him somebody saw him near my room. When I mentioned the police, he agreed to take me to Phola Park where he sold the tablet,” said Lizel.

“The tablet is worth R6 000 and he sold it for R80. I got my tablet back and I abandoned my idea of opening a theft case with the police. The thief begged me not to report him and promised he would never do such a thing again.”
