Why are the streetlights on during the day?

Municipality investigates streetlight on during the day

ALBERTON – In a previous article, the RECORD reported on streetlights burning day and night in parts of Eden Park.

The Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality has replied to a few questions which were posed to them after residents complained about the lights. According to residents, the municipality is quick to advise them to use electricity sparingly and yet several streetlights are left on during the day.

Many residents in the area are complaining that they have to suffer due to load shedding while the metro is wasting electricity.

In a statement issued by Themba Gadebe, EMM spokesperson, he explains that there are various reasons that the streetlights are on during the day.

As an example, he said that there might be a problem with the photo cell. He also said that it might be an act of vandalism. Vandals switch the lights on to supply illegal connections.

He added that they will send out a team to investigate the matter and to make the necessary repairs.

Residents should report any streetlight problems to the EMM call centre on 0860 543 000 or 011 999 2525. Alternatively residents can go to the EMM website and log their complaint at www.ekurhuleni.gov.za
