Beauty and brains in Eldos

Alberton resident and reigning Mrs United Nations SA, Desireé Oliphant, and Liesl Laurie, the reigning Miss South Africa, have teamed up to make a difference in their community.

ALBERTON-Two intelligent and beautiful women have teamed up to make a difference in the community of Eldorado Park.

Alberton resident and reigning Mrs United Nations SA, Desireé Oliphant, and Liesl Laurie, the reigning Miss South Africa, have taken it upon themselves to help put Eldorado Park ‘straight’.

When they were crowned in two completely different pageants at different places and times to reign within the same year, little did they know they were from the same community.

In addition, these intelligent, assertive and strikingly beautiful women are from an area that is notorious for gangsters and substance abuse.

“No one can speak the lingo, or walk the talk better than us,” the women said.

“We are not the Messiah, but we have a plan and an idea of what it takes to turn Eldorado Park around,” Desireé continued.

A National Youth Development Agency branch was opened in Eldorado Park on June 13, and Desiree and Liesl were invited to be part of the event.

On Youth Day, June 16, Heartlines, a multimedia non-governmental organisation, and the Gauteng provincial government came together and explained the corrective strategy for Eldorado Park, and how they will team up with Liesl and Desiree to spearhead this strategy.

As iconic female leaders in society, they have been identified to play a key role in Eldorado Park and within their immediate communities.

These two have big plans for Women’s Month in August, so watch this space.
