A celebration of choir music

On 18 June, the Linder Auditoruim filled with the sounds of young voices from Alberton joining with the Drakensberg Boys choir and the result was a joyful and lyrical evening of music.

ALBERTON- The coming together of four junior choirs and the Drakensberg Boys Choir was a delight for the senses and a balm for the spirit.

On June 18, the Linder Auditorium was filled with young voices from various Alberton primary school choirs, including Randrefrein from Laerskool Randhart, the junior and senior choirs from Brackenhurst Primary and the General Alberts Choir. They were joined by the Maranatha Christian School Choir, from Pretoria.

The array of sounds, styles, rhythms and dancing skills on display were staggering and beautifully arranged.

The learners went wild when one of the Drakies announced: “Just think of us as an Africa’s One Direction”. With this they started an African medley and gumboot dancing.

The audience was treated to a huge variety of sound, ranging from classical and gospel to African music, and it all ended with the whole auditorium joining the Drakensberg Boys Choir in singing the National Anthem.

More than a few people teared up at this very moving and special end to an amazing evening.
