Syndicate stop in their tracks

Crime does not take a day off luckily neither do our authorities.

ALBERTON – The arrest of three suspects on Youth Day will possibly break the back of a syndicate which has been active in Alberton.

On Tuesday, June 16, while most people were enjoying their public holiday, CPS Security, EMPD and Brackendowns SAPS worked together to fight crime and make Alberton a safer place.

According to Tyrone van der Merwe, from CPS Security, a member of the public alerted them about a house robbery taking place in Stander Street, Brackendowns.

Immediately they sent out five response vehicles, as well as two tactical units, to the address given. When the units arrived at the scene, EMPD members had already apprehended two of the three suspects. The third suspect jumped over a residential wall and made his escape.

“CPS Security together with SAPS Brackendowns and EMPD began searching properties one by one, with the help of the SAPS helicopter,” said Tyrone.

During the search, they came across stolen goods from the house which had just been robbed.

The search for the third suspect was successful and he was found hiding in another resident’s back garden. All three of the suspects were arrested.

One of the victims told CPS Security that the suspects were armed with a panga, a firearm and a taser.

“We were later informed that the suspects tied up their victims with white cable ties. Over the past few weeks we have come across house robberies were the victims were tied up with white cable ties. We have reason to believe that this syndicate has been terrorising Alberton for a few months,” said Tyrone.

CPS Security is reminding all residents to stay vigilant and they urge the public to report any suspicious activity. Should you see something suspicious, you can contact their 24-hour control room on 011 024 2426.
