Elderly feels like outcasts

Senoir citizens in Eden Park have still not come to terms with the fact that they were turned down when food parcels were handed out last week.

ALBERTON – Ellen Phillander said that they were told to enter the hall and take their seats. “But when the issuing of the food parcels started, an official announced that the food parcels were not for pensioners,” she said.

“We saw them giving parcels to young boys and girls, and mostly nyaope smoking boys. It was not fair. We sat and waited for hours only to be chased away.

“We read in the Daily Sun newspaper how the MEC for Social Development, Faith Mazibuko, gave good parcels to pensioners at the Meadowlands Hostel in Soweto at Ekuthuleni Hall, but not us. What is the difference between pensioners of Eden Park and those of Soweto. They treated us like outcasts and we are not happy about it,” said an angry Ellen.
