Lombard case: accused acquitted of murder charges

After three years in court the accused in the road rage case which claimed the life of Owein Lombard, Michael Sinequan, has been acquitted of murder charges.

ALBERTON – He appeared in the Palm Ridge Court for the last time on May 11. This follows the case of case of Owein Lombard, an Alberton resident who was fatally shot on June 9, 2012. The fatal road rage incident took place on the intersection of Michelle Avenue and Blue Crane Drive.The magistrate, Lee-Ann Sigh, said it was reasonable that the accused felt that he had to protect himself and his wife. She further stated that the testimony of the four witnesses did not match up and that the accused’s version of self-defence is possible.

She also said that Sinequan shot in the direction of the attack and this does not necessarily mean that he was aiming for the attacker.

Family and friends of Lombard were at the court, dressed in matching golf shirts.

According to reports, the family will not take any other legal steps.
