Mayor sells City to China

Ekurhuleni executive mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele will be setting out on Friday, May 8, on a trip to China intended to entice investors to invest in the city.

The executive mayor will also be attending the annual World Airport Cities Conference and Exhibition, which will take place from May 13-15.

The aerotropolis concept was launched to improve the economic status of Ekurhuleni; combat unemployment and poverty in the city.

An aerotropolis is a city that anchors its economic activities around the existence of an international airport – in this case the O.R. Tambo International Airport.

The Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis concept is planned to lead the way for programmes such as the Digital City, and the Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network, which will push the city’s economic and transformation goals.

“We are going to China to tell the world that Ekurhuleni has adopted a posture that is welcoming to strategic partnerships and private sector investments; we want the world to know that we are the preferred destination for investment in the Southern hemisphere,” said Gungubelathe Executive Mayor

The mayor and the Ekurhuleni delegation are expected back in the country in a couple of weeks.
