ALBERTON- 39 years ago Nic Gerber started the Tank Clinic in Alrode, and the business is still thriving in Alberton today.
What started off as a fairly small business has grown and moved premises three times.
They manufacture tankers for Total SA, Engen, and other fuel transportation companies.
Nic came up with the idea a couple of years ago to create a bus out of a tanker, and this is so successful that I saw a new one being built while I was visiting the production line.
Should they wish to take clients to a rugby match or any event, everyone hops onto the tanker and goes for a novelty ride.
On the tour, safety officer Bafana Zule explained that every tanker has separate compartments that can carry diesel and petrol simultaneously, and each compartment has a separate outlet.
It all starts with a shiny 5mm thick plate that is bent into the shape of a tank and welded together.
The factory has high noise levels, but is clean and professionally run.
On Thursday, April 23, Total SA handed over 11 tanks – all manufactured at the Tank Clinic – to two logistics enterprises, as part of their Siyakhula project.
The handover was hosted at the Tank Clinic premises.
