Suzuki Joburg South scoops Suzuki Dealer of the Year

When it comes to glitter and glory, it's normally the north that Jo'burgers hear all about, with places like Sandton taking the lion's share.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – But now it’s the South’s turn to shine, with Suzuki Johannesburg South scooping the coveted Suzuki Dealer of Year 2014 award .

The dealership’s staff team and owner and head, Meyer Benjamin, who packs decades of guru experience in the automotive industry, have become a byword for stellar sales and service.

Yet Meyer is a little self-effacing about this plaudit, saying the kudos lies not with him but with his customers. “It’s great to bring a major automotive award to the South, especially as it’s almost always the northern suburbs that receive all the glory,” said Meyer. “And I’d just like to say a big `thank you’ to all those who came to support this little dealer.”

Well, not so little. Suzuki JHB South stocks the full range of Suzuki vehicles, from the sensational new fuel-sipping Celerio to the plucky, indomitable Jimny, as well as the GWM line-up. And that’s without even going into what they’ve got on the pre-owned car side.

It so happens that this “little dealer” also scooped Suzuki Service Dealer 2014. Not terribly surprising given how remarkably customer-centric Suzuki JHB South is. Which, after all, is why their pre-owned side is branded as iPop – with the acronym standing for “In People Our Passion”.

“We’d like to thank our clients and customers and acknowledge that they are key in us getting these awards,” Meyer added.

In addition, Suzuki JHB South has been named a Suzuki Platinum Dealer of the Year, further adding to the kudos heaped on this dealership.

More good news, meanwhile, is that Meyer’s outfit has been awarded a Mazda franchise, so bringing Mazda to the South. And let it be said that right now this manufacturer is building simply brilliant cars.

But that’s not all, Meyer is currently working on a book that promises to not just shake up the motor industry, but provide a compelling inspiration for individuals everywhere – as well as being a rattling good read.

Meyer’s co-author is James Siddall, whose bestselling, award-winning memoir Dystopia was launched to literary acclaim in 2013.

The book is tentatively titled Confessions Of A Car Salesman, and will trace his background from a hardscrabble childhood in the Free State to being a motoring icon in his own right. Perhaps more importantly, it will give never-before-seen, tell-all insights into the automotive world, and provide a compelling tale of how to achieve success against all odds.

“I’m delighted to have James Siddall as my co-author, especially as he’s a brilliant writer and also certainly knows a thing or two about triumphing in the face of adversity,” said Meyer. “I can promise you that this book will certainly shake up the industry. It helps that James himself is a motoring writer with vast experience.”
