Donation of chairs for needy school

After reading about the chair crisis at Eden Park High, concerned residents came together to make a difference in learners lives.

ALBERTON – Lishje Els, wife of reverend Gys Els of the Seeter Gemeente, read about the predicament Eden Park High was experiencing in terms of their seating. She did not hesitate to contact Cllr Bruna Haiple, who initially reported on the problem.

“It is not negotiable that learners don’t have chairs to sit on,” she told Bruna and Cllr Vicky Laurence.

She then contacted her daughter, Lize, who is a teacher at St Teresa’s Mercy School in Rosebank, and told her about the 400 students who do not have a chair to sit on. The school responded in 24 hours and shared some good news.

They were able to donate 400 chairs.

The next step was to get the chairs to the school and Marius Botha, owner of MRB Works, was more than happy to assist. A team consisting of Marius, his son, Lishje, Rev Gys and two other helpers, Job and John, went to pick up the chairs at St Teresa’s Mercy School and delivered them to Eden Park High.

Mrs Liza Naudé, the Principal and her staff were delighted at the sight of the generous donation.

“This story is an example of how we as a community could make a difference by reaching out and working together,” Lishje added.

* Cllr Bruna Haiple thanked everyone involved, her letter of thanks can be read on the letters pages.
