Education department’s response to squatter camp

The Gauteng Department of Education issued a statement regarding the 2nd Avenue squatter camp in Alberton North, stating that the EMM needs to find alternative accommodation or land for squatters.

ALBERTON-The Gauteng Department of Education issued the following statement regarding the Second Avenue squatter camp in Alberton North:

The matter was heard on October 2013 and September 2014 and has since been postponed indefinitely, allowing the Ekurhuleni Municipality to report on how it may house the illegal occupants.

On February 20, 2015 the municipality issued an interim report indication that they still need time to find land or alternative accommodation for them. The matter is still not finalised.
