Residents cause havoc to family

The sound of passing footsteps near their front door stirs fear in the hearts of the Klassen family after continuous vandalising of their home.

EDEN PARK – “We live in fear, our lives are in danger 24 hours a day. We pray daily that nothing horrible should happen to us. Our property is used as a shortcut between Eden Park and Phola Park,” said Kelvin.

The Klassen family lives at the corner of Opelweg and Packard Street, where residents have created a “freeway” to Phola Park both at night and during the day.

“Our yard is a dumping site where everyone dumps rubbish. People pass at night and just smash our windows for no apparent reason. I am unemployed and my mother is doing odd jobs for an income.

“We have reported our problem to the local police and have consulted our ward councillor Robert Pienaar to help us, but we are still waiting for his response,” said a tearful Kelvin.

The RECORD spoke to Cllr Pienaar, who said he is aware of the dilemma, and he was still trying to get sponsorships to obtain material to close the back of the property, which will prevent people from using it as a shortcut.
