ALBERTON – Delegates from the Executive Committee, Mayoral Committee, Gauteng AIDS Council, Provincial Heads of Department, Provincial Regional Management, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), Ekurhuleni Health department, Ekurhuleni Social Development and local councillors were present . Government representatives were given a tour of the facility and each section’s dynamics was described by qualified personnel.
Member of the Gauteng AIDS council and ecumenical council secretary Reverend Gift Moerane was impressed with the staff and services offered at the centre. Reverend Moerane said in an exclusive interview with the RECORD that he would be prepared to put his neck out for places like AMCARE.
“Places like this need our support,” said Reverend Moerane. He went on to say that if AMCARE and Stepping Stone should require governmental assistance, he would represent them to the best of his ability.
The delegation’s visit was part of a provincial and municipal initiative to visit profile ward-based, multi-sectorial programmes, poverty alleviation and prevention programmes on HIV, STI’s and TB.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura chaired a meeting of the Gauteng Aids Council held in the EMM. The meeting was attended by MECs, the Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor and councillors.
“In line with our commitment of being an activist government, we will work with all stakeholders to ensure that we reduce the new infection of HIV/AIDS, STIs, TB and improve the level of service that our people receive in our public health institutions,” said Premier Makhura.
