Easter tournament in Thokoza

Some 40 000 spectators frequented a successful Easter Soccer Tournament held in Thokoza with 20 senior teams battling it out for R20 000 cash for the winning team.

After the four-day tournament from April 3 to April 6, Astonvilla snatched the grand prize with a 2-0 win over Snack, who took the second prize of R10 000 for the team.

These two teams also received a full soccer kit for each player. Cash and kits were proudly sponsored by Mr Buti Zondo from Zondo Driving School.

Also awarded on the day was top goal scorer with six goals during the tournament, Mandla Nhlapho (Mayoyo) from Snack, top goal keeper Siyanda Bhushula from Green Stars and player of the tournament, Sakile Gule from Astonvilla. These three players earned themselves the opportunity to qualify for their Code 10 drivers licences, with free classes offered by Zondo Driving School.

Not only did this tournament draw teams from the whole of the Kathorus area, but it was a delight to see the attendance of thousands of spectators coming out to enjoy four days of solid soccer.

The organisers of the tournament are planning a winter tournament during the school holidays. Anyone interested, or anyone who needs more information, can call Charles Mokoena on 081 440 1442.
