Alberton North business forced to fix own pavements

Stephanus Janse van Rensburg was forced to fix the pavement in front of his business in Alberton North after deep holes started appearing.

ALBERTON- Stephanus Janse van Rensburg from Shadow Racing was forced to try and fix the pavement in front of his business in Alberton North after deep holes started appearing.

A year ago Stephanus opened Shadow Racing in Second Avenue, Alberton North. As the year progressed the state of the pavement deteriorated by the week.

He was eventually forced to fill the holes with stones and sand and pave the driveway himself in order to neaten the front of his business. It also became difficult for him to drive into his premises and dangerous for pedestrians.

“I pay my rates and taxes, but receive no help from the council. If I wanted to fix the whole pavement it would be very expensive, and as a small business I can’t afford it,” says Stephanus.

After only a year on these premises, he is closing and moving his shop to a new location. The squatter camp and dirty open piece of land on the corner of Second Avenue and Gerrit Maritz have only added to his woes.
