Man killed for empty crates

A 21-YEAR-OLD man, accused of stealing three empty crates, was killed in Extention 3, Palmridge on Friday, February 22 at about 22:00.

EDEN PARK  – The tavern owner discovered that three crates were stolen from his tavern, and together with his son and a neighbour, got hold of the suspect and beat him to confess that the stole the crates. The beating continued until he confessed and pointed out who he sold it to.

Bleeding heavily after the assault, he was taken to the buyer of the crates where it was confirmed that the crates were bought from the suspect. They buyer gave the crates back and begged the tavern owner to release the suspect, but he refused and continued to beat him.

The suspect’s mother also begged the owner to have mercy on her son, seeing that he got his crates back. The man, his son and the neighbour would not listen to any of the begging and kept on beating the suspect, while dragging him back to the tavern.

The dead body of the man was found the next morning at the tavern with ropes around his legs and wrists. The 58-year-old tavern owner, his son and neighbour were arrested and charged with murder. The SAPS is investigating.
