Seven things to know about your load shedding schedule

Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality explains the load shedding schedule in a recent press release.

ALBERTON –

1. EMM only sheds areas where the electricity is supplied by the municipality.

2. Other areas who receive their power from Eskom should check the load shedding schedule provided by Eskom.

3. Industrial areas will not experience load shedding during stage one and two load shedding, thus industrial areas will not appear on the relevant load shedding schedule.

4. If your residential area does not appear on the load shedding schedule EMM encourages residents to inform the municipality, as there might be a problem on the schedule. “An investigation will be carried through and the areas that are supplied by the municipality will be included on the EMM load schedule,” Themba Gadebe explained.

5. The load shedding schedule is implemented equitably, thus one area should not be affected at the same time on different days. So if your area is affected between 17:30 and 20:30, the next day your area will be affected in a different time slot.

6. Eskom only takes control of the EMM load shedding schedule, when stage 3 load shedding is implemented.

7. When your area has been effected longer than what is expected from the schedule it might be because the power supply had to be manually restored by a technician at the relative substation.

“There are events when Eskom experiences technical challenges, with their remote links to restore power resulting to their technicians having to manually restore power at substations. This unfortunately results in restoration time taking much longer than expected and residents complaining that the load shedding schedule is not properly followed,” Themba explained.
