Youth discourages the public from paying TV licences

'SABC's COO Motsoeneng cannot demand that we pay for TV licences so that he can increase his salary to R10 million.' - NFPYM.

JOHANNESBURG  – The National Freedom Party Youth Movement (NFPYM) has expressed shock at the SABC’s call for the public to pay for TV licences.

“We are utterly disgusted,” said NFPYM secretary-general Busi Tshabalala. “The public broadcaster is nothing but Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s milk-cow. Without having passed matric, Motsoeneng is earning R2.4 million and now he wants more. What does he takes us for? What does he say to hundreds of graduates who have been job hunting for years without any success?

“Motsoeneng cannot demand that we pay for TV licences so that he can increase his salary to R10 million. As the NFPYM, we make this clarion call to all South Africans, including SABC staff and Motsoeneng’s family members and relatives, not to pay TV licences. The SABC has undermined us as the public on numerous occasions. Part of the reason why people are not paying their TV licences is because the public broadcaster makes decisions without consulting them.

“If the SABC valued us as their customers, they would have handled the case of 16 axed Generations actors differently. But because of the SABC’s arrogance, we are forced to watch the boring soapie full of clowns and Mickey Mouse actors. Certainly, paying TV licences at the current state of the SABC will mean we value them and obviously will continue undermining viewers.

“For as long as Motsoeneng is at the helm of the SABC and the public broadcaster continues to treat citizens with disdain, we urge South Africans not to pay their TV licences. History will judge us harshly if we allow this atrocious treatment to continue,” Tshabalala said.
