Ekurhuleni Academic Excellence Awards

Ekurhuleni's top academic performers for 2014 gathered to celebrate their achievement.

ALBERTON – The students were entertained by the EMPD choir and pantsula dancers before receiving awards and bursaries for tertiary studies.

This year Ekurhuleni has allocated R5 million and is assisting 175 learners with bursaries to pursue their studies. The best performing matriculates were awarded full bursaries, which will mean that they receive funding for their books and accommodation as well as their university tuition.

Alberton acquitted itself well with two students from Alberton High appearing in the top students in Ekurhuleni category. Alysha Govender and Bhavik Dheda also achieved top awards in the subject categories of Geography and Information Technology respectively. Hoërskool Marais Viljoen received accolades for being the second best performing school in Ekurhuleni.

The Executive Mayor had the following words for the recipients: “Today affords us an opportunity to showcase to the rest of the world the fountains of talent within Ekurhuleni.”
