The line is surrounded by beautiful wetlands and is run across the dam. The peaceful atmosphere is belied only by the occasional scream that rips through the wetlands as people try out the exhilarating sensation of zooming through the air.
The zip line is one of the longest in South Africa. It is extremely safe; the cable is able to hold up to 16 tonnes and the harnesses can take a weight of up to 2.5 tonnes. Two brakes are employed to ensure maximum safety for the riders. These safety measures do not dilute the experience of flying through the air over the Rietvlei dam.
Two first time riders drove all the way from Randburg to take the plunge on Saturday. Nomkhosi described it as “the best experience ever,” right after shakily climbing down from the ride.
