Fox reaction team member recovering

John Vrey, the fox Security reaction team member, who was recently shot, is stable but still in ICU.

ALBERTON – John Vrey, aged 34, the Fox Security reaction team member who was shot yesterday at about 02:50 is recovering in the hospital.

John is stable but still in ICU for observation, they hope that he will be released out of ICU by the end of the day.

He was shot after the team reacted to a panic call at the Quick Shop at Village Motors, Vermooten Street, Brackenhurst. Upon arrival, the member from Fox and the suspect met one another in the doorway as he was on his way in and the suspect on his way out.

The suspect fled the scene with a fist full of money with the Fox member giving chase. He caught up with the suspect on the corner of Roy Campbell and Malherbe streets. In the struggle to arrest the man, shots where fired and the security member was wounded.

Back-up arrived and he received immediate medical attention and was transported to the Union Hospital. At 07:47 he was still in theatre with his condition being described as stable.

Fox Security’s Tactical Unit launched a manhunt for the suspect at 06:00 this morning . In their search they found a blood trail, leading them to the gum trees at the wall next to the R59. Here they found the suspect still in possession of an unlicensed firearm and the money. He was also wounded. He was transported to Brackenhurst SAPS, where he was charged with attempted murder, robbery and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The suspect was taken to hospital.
