East Rand schools go digital

Gauteng Department of Education has gotten rid of chalkboards and replaced them with the latest technology in schools.

A delighted MEC for Education in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, introduced launch of learners receiving tablets moments after Gauteng was announced the best performing province with a 84.7 per cent matric pass rate.

Lesufi said, “Seven schools will be going live operating in the following manner; one learner one tablet and one teacher, one laptop in classrooms.”

The first schools to be the first to launch this campaign are, Boitumelong Secondary School, Phomolong Secondary, Tlamatlama primary School, Tshepisa Primary School (all from Tembisa), Thandi Eleanor Sibeko Secondary in Duduza, Sunward Park in Boksburg and Ponelopele Oracle Secondary in Ivory Park.

The MEC hopes that this initiative will go a long way towards raising the quality of education provided at schools.

The Project will work towards introducing smart paperless classrooms (classrooms of the future) to ensure that learners and teachers have progressive access to broadband and innovative learning and teaching tools which will enable them to meaningful participate in the economies of the future.
