ALBERTON – A 15-year-old girl was shot in her stomach by a 12-year-old boy in Phumula today at 14:30.
According to information received from Alberton SAPS’s spokes person Sgt Nkuna the girl was shot with a pistol while they were in the boy’s room. The boy lives in Phumula, which forms part of Sector 3 of Alberton.
The boy, who is the son of a Warrant Officer stationed at the Jabulani SAPS, explained that the fire arm belonged to a man named Mpho.
Mpho has a criminal record and had to sign his parole at the Boksburg prison. Police have not been able to make contact with Mpho yet.
It is reported that Mpho left for Limpopo two weeks ago. He frequently visited the boy’s cousin who lives in the house where the shooting took place.
The motive for the shooting is still unclear at this stage, but the boy told police that he was moving the fire-arm when the girl grabbed it. There was a struggle and a shot went off.
The boy has been charged with attempted murder and the possession of an unlicensed fire-arm, he has been taken to the Walter Sisulu place of safety, and will appear in court soon.
