Safety tips for festive season

Eden Park Community Watch Forum needs assistance of community to help with patrols and awareness campaigns.

EDEN PARK – The Eden Park Community Watch Forum would like to share the following tips for the festive season with residents from Eden Park.

* In case of emergency, contact SAPS or 10118 first, or you may also use this anonymous tip-off line, Crime Line SMS 32211. Always try to take the name of the officer you speak to.

* Thereafter you may contact one of the EPCW members or place an alert on the Facebook page.

* Do not attempt to confront criminals or take the law into your own hands, this may make matters worse for you.

* When leaving home, be sure that windows are closed and doors are locked. Try not to leave your house unattended for too long, especially if there is a history of break-ins in your neighbourhood.

* If you are going away, either get someone to house-sit or get someone to check on your house.

* If there are suspicious people hanging around your neighbourhood, contact SAPS, Crime line or EPNW to look into it.

* When driving home, look around before you drive into the driveway. If there is a car following you, rather circle the block to ensure that you are not any danger.

* If you are confronted by criminals, try to remain calm. Most criminals don’t want to hurt the victims, do not do anything to provoke them.

* If you have been hijacked, wait for the criminals to be out of sight before you start “alarming” everyone. Screaming while they are around may result in you being injured or hurt by them.

* Keep your kids safe this holiday season. Do not leave them unattended for too long without checking on them. Tell your children not to leave with strangers or family and friends, without informing you and getting permission from you.

Thank you for your support and trust since the birth of this community forum. We still need the assistance of many community members to help with patrols and awareness campaigns to make Eden Park a safer place.

Have a blessed and merry Christmas from Eden Park Community Watch
