Bridge the Gap

2015 Year of Action

I welcome all residents back from a well-deserved rest over this holiday season. I trust that the community and council as a collective are prepared for a year of hard work to make Ekurhuleni a better place for all.

We start this year with the promise that we rededicate ourselves to a shared vision for our community’s future by telling a good story in 2015. I pledge again that I will continue to serve the people of Alberton and Ekurhuleni with integrity and a commitment to improve service delivery in our community.

I am grateful that the community of Alberton can depend on the CCC Manager, Mr Stephen Nowatha, and his team for their tireless efforts to improve service delivery to the residents of Alberton. We rely on Stephen and the dedications of the Ekurhuleni officials to meet the service delivery challenges that lie ahead. Alberton has always been a very special place where old world values meet new world dynamics. I hope that in 2015 we can restore some of our old world character as a town. Community service and the willingness to give back is what make our town a community in this ever-changing new world.

I call on residents to give back in 2015 and become active participants in our community. By becoming active in the community, residents will experience a stronger sense of belonging and build a better community identity. I have never really believed in new year’s resolutions as they rarely last beyond the first week in January.

I would rather ask residents to support me in the commitment to embrace a shared vision in 2015 for improving our community’s future. Whether it is through giving time at the SPCA or AMCARE, being an activist for something, or even cleaning up a local park – get involved. I want to call every Albertonian from every age group to make 2015 your year of giving something back to our community.

I believe that Alberton and its residents is an integral part of making the City of Ekurhuleni one of the best cities in our country. Let us restore the vitality of our neighbourhoods and our businesses in 2015 through the strength, unity and diversity of our community. May this New Year be healthy, happy and prosperous for all the residents of Alberton and Ekurhuleni. Follow me on Twitter @neildiamond7 for regular municipal updates in 2015.
