Farewell Mr Minnie

Mr Minnie, the principal of Alberton High, is retiring this year.

ALBERTON – He needs no introduction as he is loved by many old-scholars, teachers and parents in Alberton.

The RECORD has recently had the privilege to be invited to Mr Minnie’s farewell and was there to document his last assembly at Alberton High.

Mr Minnie’s farewell was held at Goldreef City’s Crown Roof convention centre on November 7, and was an elegant event where many sung his praises, at it should have been, as Alberton High has multiple awards that were received while Mr Minnie was principal. What was very clear at the event was that whoever will be taking over for Mr Minnie has big shoes to fill.

Those who greeted the remarkable educator spoke about the many awards that Alberton High has received. They have recently won the Beeld-trophy for middle schools.

Alberton High made history by becoming the first school to have its name engraved in both the middle schools and the small schools floating Beeld-trophies.

They were also awarded the top school in the district in 2013, which is one of the many awards that they have received for best school.

Mr Minnie shared this special day with family, friends, colleagues and was also very grateful to have his son present who now resides in Australia. The farewell was the perfect end to a very successful career as an educator.

When asked about what Mr Minnie is looking forward to after his retirement, it was clear that he is a family man and that time with his family and grandchildren will be top of his list.

He also mentioned that there are a few activities that he will be looking forward to ; he mentioned that he will improving his golf game and that he will be embracing his love for nature by packing his 4×4 and traveling to Botswana more often now.
